Introduction

This rule set, the Deva System, is designed to model the combat and general story structure of the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series. It closely matches the recent two games, but features elements of the first two.

Persona games can take place almost anywhere there is civilization; from large cities to small towns in just about any part of the world you’d care to pick. It could be your hometown, a major city, or even fictional. Travel to areas nearby this “hub” city may (or may not) happen at GM and player discretion. They are generally set in the near future, but that does necessarily need to be the case. Hundreds of years into the future or the past could feasibly be done with a few minor adjustments.

Characters are generally teenage high school students from middle to upper income families. Although, any of these factors can easily be changed to suit your game, it isn’t recommended to play with characters younger than 13 or older than 24. They have potent personalities and through some event or another (generally unique to the game in question and more often than not involving Philimon) have gained the ability to summon persona: physical manifestations of the masks protecting the self from the outside world.
